This is a nice article about yoga and sleep, better known as yoga nidra. I’ve taught and written about yoga nidra, and practice it myself several times a week. The best book on the yoga nidra technique is one by the Bihar School Of Yoga. If you have trouble sleeping and are seeking to improve your sleep through yoga, buy the book or find and teacher who knows how to teach it. Then, get started. Yoga and sleep are a power pair that can bring about vast life changes. Read the articles here. Continue reading

Twisting Side Angle

Everyone should have a yoga sequence for the airport gate. Do not be shy about practicing in public. If you are going to be sitting down for long periods of time on an airplane, a few yoga poses for before you travel will make all the difference in the world to your body, mind, and spirit. Below is a yoga for travel sequence I did myself while waiting for the boarding call at an airport gate. Continue reading

Patanjali, writer of the classic yoga text The Sutras, developed the eight limbs of yoga as a guide to help yogis achieve the no thought mind (Unmani Mudra). The eight limbs are incredibly practical even today in the modern world as one delves deeper into a yoga practice for a life of greater peace and quiet, with a healthier mind and body. Though often reserved for teacher trainings, I use the limbs regularly to inform my own practice and teachings. The eight limbs of yoga are simple and easy to understand, yet much more difficult to incorporate into everyday life. Continue reading

Featured in The New York Times

In this article, Hillary Stout does an incredibly nice job of explaining how important alone time is to tapping into our true spirit and to loosing the false identities we carry with us from the moment we are born. She focuses on the topic of Svadyaya, or self-study, one of the Niyamas (2nd of the 8 Limbs of Yoga), which are life rules espoused by the ancient yogis to help those on a yogic journey to move towards freedom of spirit. Svadyaya is about getting to know one’s true nature apart from all labeling and false identification created by our own egos and the world that we live in. Continue reading
