As temperatures begin to change with the seasons, you have to take extra good care of yourself to avoid injury. Here are a few easy ways to decrease the chances of damaging your body as summer melts into fall.
~If you are going to continue to exercise outside, check the temperature and weather conditions in advance so you can prepare yourself with the proper clothing. Break out your fall wardrobe and dress in layers so that as your body heats up, you can assist your internal thermometer to gradually adjust to the external conditions.
~If you are beginning to exercise inside more frequently, know that you will be transitioning from outdoor to indoor environments as you spend more time at your gym, yoga studio, or fitness boutique. If the atmosphere is set for a hot power yoga class or hot fitness calorie-burning class, give your body some time to adjust from the cooler outdoor temperature before you go into the boiling studio.
~Make sure to stay hydrated every day. Even though you might not be sweating as much you have been, your body still needs water and can become dehydrated if you don’t drink enough.
~Make sure to engage the smaller muscles in your body that support the bigger ones and vice-versa.
