Yoga Retreats: “Getting Far, Far Away From It All,” by Hillary Stout of The New York Times

In this article, Hillary Stout does an incredibly nice job of explaining how important alone time is to tapping into our true spirit and to loosing the false identities we carry with us from the moment we are born. She focuses on the topic of Svadyaya, or self-study, one of the Niyamas (2nd of the 8 Limbs of Yoga). Niyamas are life rules espoused by the ancient yogis to help those on a yogic journey to move towards freedom of spirit. Svadyaya is about getting to know one’s true nature, apart from all labeling and false identification created by our own egos and the world that we live in.
